Kemper County, Mississippi

Founded in 1833, it was named after Reuben Kemper. Reuben fought to make West Florida an independent and after a defeat and being arrested by the United States, the rebellion he started did succeed. The victory only lasted 90 days before it was annexed by the United States. Reuben also fought under Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans, where the United States military fought off a British invasion. These accomplishments are just a few of the reasons that Kemper County is named after the brave Reuben Kemper.

If you're interested in famous Texas Rangers, then you should definitely know that William Jessee McDonald, better known as Captain Bill McDonald, was born in Kemper County. Bill served as a bodyguard for both U.S. Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, opponents, along with incumbent President William Howard Taft. McDonald is an inductee of the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and will live on forever in novels like The Texas Rangers (1935), Walter Prescott Webb.
