Morgan County, Kentucky
Morgan County was founded on December 7, 1822 from portions of Bath and Floyd County. The county gets its name from Daniel Morgan, a general in the American Revolutionary War. Daniel Morgan should not be confused with Captain Morgan, the alcoholic beverage because the county is among the dry counties which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Consisting of mostly conservative Scotch and Irish descendants who take pride in their county, Morgan County is influenced by their churches and schools. The people of Morgan county are deeply interested in their heritage as evidenced by monuments on the courthouse lawn honoring their Foundding Fathers, World War II Veterans, and the veterans of all wars.
